Athletics

Garfield Athletics consists of multiple programs including Physical Education, Running Club, Track, and more. We are constantly creating new opportunities for our students to be physically active and will be updating this page frequently throughout the school year. If you have any questions about Garfield Athletics and the programs we offer, please contact us via phone or email.

Cross Country

It’s Cross Country running time, and it looks like we’re going to have another great season! Practices will be Monday September 8 and 15th right after school. Meets will be every Tuesday and Thursday starting September 23. Your child is not required to go to all the meets. If they run in at least two regular meets, they qualify to run in the Championship Meet.

:: HUMBOLDT COUNTY K-8TH GRADE 2025 CROSS COUNTRY SCHEDULE ::

The season will be similar to last year. The kindergarteners to 2nd grade will be the first and shortest race, starting at .5 miles. The 3rd to 5th graders will run 2nd and the race will be somewhat longer. The 6th to 8th grade race will be the last and the longest (starting at 1 mile and ending the season with 2 mile races). There will be stickers for each run and medals and a team championship at the final event.

Please fill out the Acknowledgement of Risk Form, which can be downloaded HERE. Please call or text Heidi Macdonald with questions at (360) 742-7076.

A NOTE FOR NEW FAMILIES:
Cross Country practices include two weeks of off campus running. Parent volunteer, Heidi Macdonald, and her assistants run with the students. They leave campus through the Grange parking lot and turn south on Grange Road. They run down Grange Road to Windmill Lane then turn east along Windmill and Apple Valley Lanes toward Kathy’s House. Runners return along the same route. Runners never run on Freshwater Road.

Track meets are for Students in Kindergarten through 8th grades. Garfield does not transport any students to track meets. Students must come to the meets with their parents. Heidi will be at the meets to help organize participants. Students do not have to attend the meets to participate in our Cross Country practices. It can just be for fun.

IMPORTANT:
TK students and Kindergarten students are welcome to join Garfield running practices but must be accompanied by at least one parent or parent substitute who is there to keep pace with them individually and return with them to campus as need be.
